Woodstock Crawl: The Woman's Eye II

In celebration of Women’s Month, art commentator and consultant Mary Corrigall has curated a sequel to the Woman’s Eye for Cape Town art lovers this August. The Woman’s Eye II examines the connections between the domination of nature and the exploitation of women. In this crawl Corrigall will also explore how women are exploiting their historical link to 'nature'. Touching on eco-feminism, Corrigall will look at how female artists deal with and confront gender and nature in their art In this guided tour through artist studios in Woodstock, you will meet artists Sanell Aggenbach, and Greatmore Studios’ Thania Petersen and Kimathi Mafafo.

In these intimate industrial settings Corrigall will tease out each artist’s unique perspective on gender and art. Visitors will be treated to a preview of works created by Aggenbach and Mafafo for their upcoming solo exhibitions at Whatiftheworld in Joburg and Ebony/Curated in Cape Town respectively. Petersen regularly exhibits at Everard Read and will give deeper insight into the series that will be exhibited in the opening exhibition at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art.

The Crawl takes place on August 26, beginning at 10.30 am in the heart of gentrified Woodstock, in the courtyard at Tribe, The Foundry, 160 Albert Road. It will conclude with a suitably intersectional gastronomic affair at the Cinta Food Market, where you can graze on Asian, African or Malay artisan cuisine.
