JOBURG ART TOURS

All tours are content-driven - the itinerary is guided by the substance of the exhibitions  and which artists are able to open up their studios to the public. Mary Corrigall, your guide, is a contemporary art expert and will begin each tour outlining the historical, aesthetic or thematic context to the artworks featured on the tour.  She likes to tell a story!

Only full day tours are offered in Joburg and as such would likely include a number of destinations from the list below.  Joburg tours need to be booked at least 2 days in advance.

BRAAMFONTEIN

As an area between the suburbs and the inner city, and the destination of Joburg's leading university, Braamfontein is a hub for young artists and art education. The Wits Art Museum offers major retrospectives and a visit to this institution is combined with perusing galleries - BHkz and Kalashnkikovv - featuring rising young and mid-career artists.

Jan Smuts Avenue in Rosebank is where Joburg's main art node is located. All the leading art galleries (Goodman, Stevenson, Everard Read, Gallery Momo, Smac, David Krut) are located in this area - over 10 galleries! Art lovers could spend days here, so allow Mary Corrigall to design an itinerary based on the best exhibitions to visit.

Between Fordsburg and Maboneng, Joburg's inner city is home to the city's most well-known corporate and public art galleries and artist studios. This includes the Joburg Art Gallery, the Standard Bank Art Gallery, the ABSA gallery as well as the Bag Factory, August House, Victoria's Yard and Ellis House and a host of other artist studios. The itinery would be guided by the exhibition programme and availability of artists.

JOBURG
ART FAIRS

Joburg is home to four art fairs. Mid-September, spring, is the main art fair 'season' with Art Joburg and Latitudes taking place in that city. This makes for a lot of art to see and navigate. A guided tour of both fairs will bring guests closer to the artists, gallerists and tastemakers making waves in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa.

Half-day Tour (3 hours)
including entry tickets to both fairs:

R3000 (for 1 person, an additional R400 per person)

This tour runs on Saturdays and Sundays only.
